Yahoo expects bulk senders to combine authentication with permission-aware list practices and easy opt-out handling. The safest implementation keeps message streams separate and makes every complaint actionable.

1. Authenticate the stream

Publish SPF for the route, sign with DKIM and use DMARC alignment for the visible From domain. Confirm that DNS and signing are correct on real messages, not only in a DNS lookup.

2. Separate by message purpose

Use distinct streams or subdomains for transactional and promotional email so a marketing complaint spike does not obscure critical account email. Keep sender names and From addresses consistent within each stream.

3. Make unsubscribe dependable

Support RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe for subscription and promotional messages, keep a visible unsubscribe link in the message, and apply suppression quickly across every relevant campaign source.

4. Monitor complaints and list quality

Use Yahoo Complaint Feedback Loop data where available, remove hard bounces immediately and keep complaint rate below 0.3%. Reconfirm inactive subscribers instead of mailing disengaged records indefinitely.

Implementation checklist

  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC verified
  • Transactional and marketing streams separated
  • One-click unsubscribe header active
  • Visible body unsubscribe active
  • Complaint feedback reviewed
  • Hard bounces and opt-outs suppressed
